Position Overview:
The Child & Youth Engagement Worker supports the planning and delivery of Delta Family’s After School Program (ASP) for school-age children in Northwest Toronto. The role helps provide a safe, engaging, inclusive and culturally responsive program that supports children’s physical activity, healthy living, academic development, wellness, cultural identity, creativity and positive social development.
The worker will contribute to structured sport and physical activity, healthy snack provision, academic assistance, arts and cultural activities, wellness programming and activities that promote cultural knowledge, equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, mutual respect and understanding.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the planning, preparation and delivery of daily after-school programming in accordance with Ontario After School Program requirements and Delta Family program plans.
• Supervise children and maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive and well-organized program environment.
• Lead and support structured sport, recreation and physical activities, contributing to a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity each program day.
• Support structured sport activities and partnerships with organized sport associations, leagues or clubs as identified in the program work plan.
• Prepare, serve and support the provision of healthy snacks that meet ASP requirements.
• Facilitate healthy eating, nutrition, cooking and food-safety activities.
• Provide homework help, tutoring and academic assistance to participants individually and in small groups.
• Lead recreational, creative, arts-based and culturally relevant activities.
• Facilitate activities and discussions that support self-esteem, mental wellness, bullying prevention, leadership, empowerment, identity and positive social development.
• Support programming that promotes Black/African culture and identity and strengthens cultural knowledge, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, mutual respect and understanding.
• Build positive and respectful relationships with children, parents/caregivers, school staff, community partners and Delta Family staff.
• Respond appropriately to behavioral concerns, incidents and participant needs, and follow organizational safeguarding, duty-to-report, health and safety and incident-reporting procedures.
• Maintain accurate attendance, program records, activity information and other documentation required for program monitoring and reporting.
• Support participant and parent/caregiver surveys, feedback collection and other program evaluation activities.
• Prepare, organize and maintain program materials, supplies and equipment.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, planning and program review activities.
• Promote Delta Family programs and services and connect families to other supports where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with the After-School Program team and other Delta Family programs.
• Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Services, Social Work, Recreation, Education or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• At least two year of experience working with children, youth and/or families, preferably within Black communities and/or culturally responsive community programs.
• Experience planning, facilitating and delivering programs for school-age children.
• Understanding of anti-Black racism, systemic barriers and issues affecting Black children, youth and families.
• Understanding of the diversity of Black and African Canadian experiences and a commitment to culturally responsive and anti-oppressive practice.
• Experience supporting recreation, sport, physical activity, arts, cultural, wellness and/or educational programming.
• Ability to provide homework support and facilitate academic activities; tutoring experience in literacy or mathematics is an asset.
• Strong group facilitation, communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to support positive behavior, respond appropriately to conflict and maintain clear boundaries with children and youth.
• Ability to work collaboratively with families, school staff, community partners and colleagues.
• Strong organizational, planning, documentation and time-management skills.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Additional language(s) is an asset.
• A current Vulnerable Sector Check is required before commencement of employment.
• Emergency First Aid and CPR certification
Working Conditions:
• Work is primarily delivered during after-school hours at designated program sites in Northwest Toronto.
• The position requires active participation in indoor and outdoor recreation and physical activities.
• Specific program sites, days and hours of work will be confirmed based on the approved 2026-27 ASP site information and operational requirements.
Compensation:
$ 46,799 (Prorated for step -1)
